Red Group Case Study
Barclays Bank was the title sponsor for the recent ATP World Tour Tennis Finals held at The O2 arena in London. Barclays wanted to provide customers it had invited to the tennis with the ability to meet other guests so valuable business contacts could be made in a structured manner before and after matches. To facilitate this networking opportunity in a seamless manner Barclay’s appointed Red Group, the UK’s premier digital media company to provide a system that automatically logged the details of all invited guests as they arrived at the event and in turn provide a platform for a guest to request a meeting with one or more particular visitors. Red Group already had the systems and display technology to accomplish Barclay Banks remit. However they required personalised smart cards (not unlike the Oyster Card) to interact with their database system and log all guest arrivals. The database contained a persons name, position, and company as well as contact details. Visitors could then identify the individuals present at the event that they would like to meet. Guests would request meetings via terminals positioned within the hospitality areas and an email or text would be sent to the intended recipient inviting them to meet. The card also pinpointed the whereabouts of guests so contact could be made at designated meeting times.
Red Group appointed Maroon to provide fifteen different batches of programmable RFID/Mifare Cards that were required to be of supreme quality and exacting technical specification appropriate for such a prestigious event and distinguished guests. The cards also had to be produced and delivered along with appropriate card holders within two weeks of receiving the brief. Additionally the budget for card product was limited as the overall resources allocated for the project was challenging.
Maroon had to provide the best possible card to ensure reliability while offering secure multi application properties and maximum performance. We selected the Siemens 1K Mifare Card for it’s compatibility to almost all known card writers & readers and it’s all round performance capabilities.
The Siemens card also offers excellent printing attributes such as a pure white finish to maximise colour integrity as well as being robust to withstand the litho printing and personalisation processes. Maroon was also required to provide digital proofs in the first instance prior to printing all fifteen batches of cards. These were delivered within 2 days of the order being received. The cards then had to be tested by Red Group from a technical perspective and then printed proofs were sent to Barclays for final approval. This process took almost four days which left We with a challenging deadline. Before a card is completed and ready for dispatch to the client it undergoes multiple production processes. The cards are printed in sheets on both sides, they are then die cut into the familiar card format with rounded corners and packed in batches. Not only did We deliver the cards by the deadline, the cost per card requirement was met and the finished cards where printed perfectly. The performance of the cards during the ATP World Tennis Tournament exceeded all expectations and most importantly our client “Red Group” will be using our services again in the near future.
Red Group Director, Mark Worall, said: "Thanks so much for sorting the cards out. They looked great and the client loved them. We’ll be in touch again soon to order the next batch."
